“Spellbound” premiered on Broadway in October 1945 at the ASTOR theatre on Broadway. Called one of the best films of the year by The New York Times, “Spellbound stars Gregory Peck and Ingrid Bergman.

The Astor Theater was one of the great theaters during Broadway’s heyday. Along with the Rivoli, the Loew’s State, The Strand and The Criterion movies premiered and played exclusive engagements. Hugh lighted billboards were common sights and all part of the excitement.

The Astor closed in 1972.

Here the original New York Times Review.

Here’s a review from A Film Canon.
